Remember Murder She Wrote and other mystery TV shows and movies? Someone - usually a wealthy, mean, vindictive person - leaves a video for viewing by his/her survivors. There are shocking revelations - perhaps motive for that person’s murderer?
Well, Facebook - recognizing how digitally addicted we all are - has a new app: “If I Die”.
I love that name: “If I Die” - like we have a choice. J

It’s a great idea for control freaks (like me). You control what your final Facebook status update will be. You create a video to be posted when (sorry, it’s when not if) you die. Three Facebook friends have to confirm your demise before it can be posted.

Amazing. I have mixed reactions, my initial one being- what next?? But I suppose it's nice to have the option of saying goodbye to our followers in our own way. Remember my friend Dennis who hosted a "Laugh in the Face of Death" party a few months before he died of pancreatic cancer? Interesting how much social media has changed the way we communicate these days. I could see Dennis posting on facebook and making it work.
I had a similar - what??? - reaction when I read the article in the Tribune this morning. I wasn't going to post about it, but it seemed so...appropriate after all.
There's been some considerable research already about Facebook tribute pages, and how people grieve online. I thought this was an interesting perspective. The control freak in me like the idea, too. ;)
I never heard of it, but this is interesting. Actually not so far out there. People take to Facebook a lot when they are grieving. So this would be kind of cool.
